Electricity is an essential component of economic growth. Electricity development is essential for the industrial, commercial and economic development of the state. This growth requires reliable, quality and affordable electricity. Therefore, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to increase power generation to bridge the gap between power demand and supply, to meet the growing power demand and to increase power supply.

Energy Sector:
India's energy sector
is currently making progress through various pioneering activities and
projects. Focusing on renewable energy, green hydrogen production, and clean
energy sources, it is meeting the energy needs of the country and ensuring
environmental protection. The Renewable Energy Sector is responsible for
formulating policies and programs necessary to promote the use of various
unconventional and renewable energy sources in the state. It is implementing
various schemes related to the use of solar energy, biogas, micro hydel,
biomass energy etc. The department is also acting as the State. Designated Agency for the implementation of
the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, in order to fully utilize the funds and
financial incentives made available by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
of India. Development Agency (IREDA) and to give impetus to the implementation
process, the State Government. In May, 1997, a new agency was set up, Haryana
Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA). This agency acts as a nodal agency
for the implementation of various Centrally and State funded schemes/ projects
in the renewable energy sector in the State.

Energy Department: Formulation of policy related to electricity and
administrative control in the sector in the state:
Goal of Energy Department: To make the state
self-sufficient in the electricity sector, which can accelerate the overall
development of the state.
Objective: To ensure quality of electricity at reasonable prices to the consumers and to
address the prevailing electricity shortage in the state. To make all financial
institutions financially viable.
Duties of the Department: To
formulate policies for the betterment of the work of the power sector in the
state and to formulate policies for the smooth functioning of the power sector,
administrative control and smooth arrangement of electricity. MP
Electricity Regulatory Commission : To fix tariffs, issue licenses for
transmission, distribution, business of electricity, license for licensing and
judicial decisions arising between generating companies

of services provided by the department and their brief description:
a. MP
Passim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited Indore-Indore and Ujjain Region -
To work for the distribution, supply and redressal of consumer complaints.
b. Electrical
Inspection Station- To issue licenses to supervisors/third level permits and
electrical contractors, renew contract licenses, give approval to start new
high paying consumers etc.
c. 3.MP
Electricity Regulatory Commission - To regulate tariff setting, transmission,
distribution, licensing, electricity business, licensing and judicial decisions
arising between generating companies.
Public Service Grievance Redressal : When public grievances come to the
department, urgent action is taken and they are recorded and reviewed in the
system.
Trauma Center and Dialysis Facilities : District Hospital 100
beds.
