A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake
struck near Sagaing, Myanmar, on Friday, March 28, 2025, at approximately 1:20
PM local time (UTC+7). The tremors were felt across the region, including in
neighboring Thailand. In Bangkok, the earthquake caused the collapse of a
33-story building under construction, resulting in multiple casualties.  Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities
work to locate and assist survivors.

Myanmar:
Death toll: At least 1,000 people have
died in Myanmar, and the toll is expected to rise. Damage: Buildings collapsed
in cities such as Mandalay and Thandwe; in particular, a mosque in Thandwe
partially collapsed, killing at least three people.
Thailand:
Death toll: Three people died and
several others are missing after a building collapsed in Bangkok. Damage:
High-rise buildings in Bangkok shook, sending people fleeing into the streets
in panic.

The governments of Myanmar and Thailand
have declared a state of emergency and are carrying out rescue and relief
operations. Countries such as China, Russia, India, Malaysia, and South Korea
are providing humanitarian assistance. The earthquake was one of the largest to
