DEEP (UK) plans to build a submersible called Sentinel, which will allow humans to live permanently underwater by 2027.UK-based company DEEP is designing “Sentinel”, a modular underwater habitat that could allow humans to live up to 200 meters below sea level for extended periods — potentially forever.
General
purpose
- Permanent human life: 28 days underwater at depths of up to 200 meters (656 ft) – first for scientists, then for civilians Inspenet.
- Modular design: Complex systems including science laboratories, community rooms, kitchens, toilets, and support laptops.
- Transportable: Re-deployable to multiple locations for up to 20 years.
- Technical features
- Saturation living: The body is activated by the pressure in the water; each external environment is different, allowing for extended life. Timothy S. Johnston.
- Manufacturing: The system is made strong against water pressure using “wire-arc additive manufacturing” in the reactor of the wartime railway system Popular Mechanics+1Wikipedia+1.
- Safety and training: Training, clothing, and equipment on ships by the DEEP Institute.
- Environmental protection: The quality of the materials obtained through artificial technology, such as recycling, is improved.

Background Plans |
Multiple permanent Sentinels
around the world by 2035; True underwater community by 2050 |
Technology:
Water-pressure, resource end, utility component stabilization.
Mental
health: ,Psychological studies to monitor loneliness, light deprivation,
long-term effects continue.
Cost: Rs.
1,000 crore (₹10 billion)* investment in the UK at the start.
Potential
applications: Drug development, global climate monitoring, deep-sea biology –
data augmentation.
The DEEP
Institute is developing the Sentinel permanent submersible-type structure in
2027. It is a complete project that will provide vehicles, training, life
support, and social facilities for deep-sea exploration. Initially, it will be
for scientific researchers, but it will soon be open to public scrutiny and
industry.
