Bharathi Women's College, Chennai

             Bharathi Women's College, Chennai was established in 1964 as a Government Arts College for Women. In 1981-82, during the centenary celebrations of the renowned Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi, the college was renamed as Bharathi Women's College. The college is located on Old Jail Road, Chennai. The current principal of the college is D. Gladys.

Administrative Details:

·       Current Principal: Mrs. T. Gladys

·       Staff: The college has more than 180 teachers

Development and Government Schemes:

·       Rashtriya Uchhadhar Kalvi Abhiyan (RUSA): Through this central government scheme, the college has received financial assistance and has made progress in skill development activities, technological facilities and improving the quality of education

·       MoU with Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET): On 14th February 2024, a MoU was signed between the college and CIPET: IPT – Chennai. Through this, students and teachers get benefits in training, placement, consultancy, research and other educational activities

·       Government Funding Details: The college receives government funding, particularly through programs like RUSA. However, the specific amounts of this funding are not publicly disclosed.

Government assistance to female students pursuing higher education:

·       Stalin launched the expansion of the Pudumaipen scheme, which provides Rs. 1,000 per month to female students pursuing higher education (those studying in Tamil medium from 6th to 12th standard in government-aided schools) on 30.12.2024 from Thoothukudi to benefit students across Tamil Nadu. Through this, the number of women pursuing higher education in Tamil Nadu has increased by 34 percent. Subsequently, this scheme was expanded to include female students studying in Tamil medium from 6th to 12th standard in government-aided schools and pursuing higher education. Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. K. Stalin

·       M. K. Stalin launched the Tamil Puduthulvan scheme in Coimbatore on 9th August 2024. The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month to boys who have studied in classes 6 to 12 in government-run schools to continue their higher education.

·       Government assistance to female students pursuing higher education:
