Telangana’s first “Internal Reservation”! – New categories for 59 communities, who will get what?

Reservation is an important tool created for social justice in India. It is customary to reserve seats in education, employment, and government posts on the basis of caste, economy, and backwardness. In this context, the Telangana government has implemented the Internal Reservation system for the Scheduled Castes (SC) community for the first time in the country. It divides 59 communities into 3 categories and provides separate reservations for each category.

What is Internal Reservation? (What is Internal Reservation?)

1. Reservation is reservation in government schemes.
2. Internal Reservation is the provision of separate reservations to individual categories within the quota – that is, within the SC communities.
3.  It is an attempt to create equal opportunities for everyone.

Example: If a community under SC has more educational opportunities, other communities are likely to lag behind. This is why there is internal reservation.

Telangana government's new internal reservation - how will it work?

The Telangana government has divided 59 SC communities into 3 groups (Group A, B, C) and announced different quotas for each.

This reservation will be applicable not only to education and employment, but also to government appointments and examinations. 

What are the key features of this change? (Key Features of the Reform)

• First state - The first state to legally implement internal reservation.
• Data-based policy – ​​Quota announcement based on the recommendations of a committee headed by Justice Uday Lalit.
•  Progress-oriented system – Less quota is given to the developed communities and more to the backward ones.
• There are also criticisms – There have been objections to increasing social distancing. 

The Telangana government is providing internal quota within SC Reservation for the first time in the country. 59 communities are now divided into 3 categories. This is a new initiative to ensure equal opportunities!
