Volkswagen car company new updates

Volkswagen has recently been involved in a significant tax dispute with Indian authorities. The Indian customs department has issued a $1.4 billion tax notice to Volkswagen, alleging that the company misclassified imported car kits as spare parts to benefit from lower duties. This issue dates back to 2012 and is currently being contested by Volkswagen in the Mumbai High Court. The Indian government has expressed concerns that dismissing this tax bill could set a precedent encouraging other companies to withhold information and delay inquiries, potentially leading to "catastrophic consequences."

Despite these legal challenges, Volkswagen is planning to expand its presence in the Indian market with several new model launches in 2025:

Volkswagen Tiguan R: Expected in the second quarter of 2025, this high-performance version of the Tiguan will feature a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine producing over 250 hp. Imported as a completely built unit (CBU), it's anticipated to be priced around ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Golf GTI: Scheduled for a mid-2025 launch, the iconic Golf GTI will be brought to India under the homologation-free import route. Equipped with a 245hp, 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, it is expected to be priced between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh.

Volkswagen Tayron: Set to replace the Tiguan AllSpace, the Tayron is a three-row SUV slated for a third-quarter 2025 launch. It will likely feature a 2.0-liter petrol engine and is expected to be priced around ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen ID.4 Facelift: The updated version of Volkswagen's electric SUV is anticipated to arrive in India by late 2025. Featuring a 77 kWh battery, the ID.4 will be imported as a CBU, with prices estimated at around ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Facelifts for Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus: To maintain competitiveness, mid-lifecycle updates for the Taigun and Virtus are planned for late 2025 or early 2026. These updates will include design changes and additional features like an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, while retaining the existing 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter petrol engines.

These developments reflect Volkswagen's commitment to strengthening its foothold in the Indian automotive market, despite facing regulatory challenges.
