Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations Around the World

Muslims around the world are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan with joy. This year, Ramadan will be celebrated on March 31 or April 1; it is based on the sighting of the moon.

India

The major states in India where Ramadan is most popularly celebrated are:

• Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Allahabad)

• Maharashtra (Mumbai, Pune)

• Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Madurai)

• Kerala (Kozhikode, Malappuram)

• West Bengal (Kolkata)

• Telangana (Hyderabad)

• Karnataka (Bangalore)

 Saudi Arabia 

1. Saudi Arabia – There will be special prayers and large gatherings of devotees in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

2. United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Grand celebrations in cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

3. Iran – Special mohammads and iftar meals will be served.

4. Turkey – A pleasant festive atmosphere will prevail throughout the city of Istanbul.

5. Egypt – There will be a large crowd in Cairo and Alexandria.

6. Indonesia – One of the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world.

7. Pakistan – Special prayers in places like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad.


8. Malaysia – Malay people and Indian Muslims will celebrate on a grand scale.

9. Qatar – Ramadan celebrations will be grand throughout the city of Doha.

10. Sri Lanka – Big festivals in places like Colombo, Kandy.

All Muslim communities around the world are celebrating this day with unity and joy!

The festival marks the end of 30 days of fasting, a month of devotion, meditation and community service. During the festival of Ramadan, Muslims participate in special prayers, gather with family and friends, and share food. Also, charity is given to show the virtue of helping the less fortunate and the less able, showing love and brotherhood.

In your city, Chennai, special prayers are held at major mosques and stadiums. Wearing new clothes, preparing special dishes, families and friends gather and celebrate this festival with joy.
